Local businesses team up to curb Covid-19

This week something unexpected and wonderful has happened.  Ewa Powell, our fearless leader here at Modern Fabrics, was presented with the opportunity to team up with Emma Newell, owner of Defined Designs Pillow Shop, to create much needed face masks. With Ewa’s help, Emma has turned her pillow making shop into a face mask supplier overnight.

Our first batch of face masks to meet the overwhelming demand… AND they’re beautiful!

Emma has been hearing directly from nurses and it has been heartbreaking. She writes, “You might have noticed, but over the weekend this little pillow shop has turned into a full blown face mask operation… Hearing directly from nurses in need the past few days has been truly heartbreaking. The situations that they’re dealing with having to go into work without masks and suck it up, not act scared, and still do their job. Or resorting to wearing 1 mask all week long knowing they will run out soon… I’m not a hero. I’m just trying to do what I can to support the real heroes.”⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

IF YOU ARE IN NEED: Emma is compiling a list. To be added to the list, simply send her a direct message. With our combined continuing efforts, we will supply the fabric and Emma will lead the charge to supply face masks to help as many people as possible for as long as needed.⠀

IF YOU ARE:
❤️ LOCAL TO CLT: Emma is offering front porch pick ups. Let her know when you DM her and she will arrange a porch pick up. She has a few local volunteers offering to run deliveries as well. We will get these to you!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
❤️ OUTSIDE OF CLT: She is shipping as long as USPS is running. She has had so many generous people donate to sponsor shipments, care packages can be shipped out (and as quickly as possible) Just contact her with your info and what your needs are.

IF YOU ARE:
❤️LOOKING TO HELP: This little project has blown up overnight and you can help no matter your level of craftiness. There are so many ways to lend a hand.

  • SPONSOR A SHIPMENT
  • IF YOU HAVE A SEWING MACHINE and want to put it to use, just request a “ready to sew” kit for front porch pick up – You will be set up with all the materials needed to help make masks to keep the list of nurses and people in need supplied.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • DONATE to the cause and cover shipping costs for those outside of the Charlotte area, and delivery expenses for those far away. Shipping costs are ranging between $25-$56. She is currently able to ship upwards of 40-50 masks per shipment.

Contact Emma with a direct message at instagram.com/defineddesignsshop (if you’re not instagram savvy, just know you can only send a message through the app, not via computer) Or if you’re old school, like me, feel free to send her a text or call her at (978)877-3927 to be added to her list or to lend a hand. You can find her business at https://www.defineddesignsshop.com/.

Remember to keep supporting local businesses!

  1. Thank you for helping Lincoln County in our time of crisis! I don’t see but I’d like to sponsor a shipment if possible. What is the cost?

  2. SHIPPING DETAILS:
Per box for immediate delivery is ranging between $25 and $56. This depends on the size of the package, of course, but she’s shipping upwards of 40-50 masks per shipment. You can contact Emma directly to send donations.

  3. Many thanks! I am a nurse in Boston and would love to make some for my colleagues & friends. Can you send me directions?

    • Hi Alexandra! Thanks for writing in. You can contact Emma directly at the number in the post, and she will fill you in on all the details! Thank you so much for all you’re doing. Stay safe!

  4. Our son-in-law, Matthew Mondi and our daughter, Kelley Mondi are both physicians here in Augusta, GA. While we need masks here, especialy in the hospitals, Matt just sent a text from doctors in Albany, GA asking for help in all medicals needs. He sent the text hoping I can make masks to help this drastic need. I am a senior citizen and the family has asked me to stay in which I am doing. I can make masks if I have directions and materials. I understand from Sallie that you send boxes and leave by the door. Am I required to return masks to you, or am I allowed to make them for our local hospital needs as well as sending to Albany, GA. If I can get boxes, and hopefully bulk materials that are suited for safe masks, it will be a blessings and we will be grateful. I will be glad to cut them to the correct size. Thank you more than you will ever know for your heart of giving and helping.

    • Hey Genie! I will make sure that Emma gets this message. You can feel free to use the number listed in the blog post to contact her – thank you so much for being willing to help out
