Introducing Bernhardt Textiles Plain by Christian Biecher

Less is more when it comes to our latest fabric find, Bernhardt Textiles Plain. Like the name suggests it is “plain” and that is what makes it beautiful. The fabric is 95% wool with a tiny weave texture.

Designed by a famous FrenchmanBernhardt Textiles Plain was designed by an accomplished French-born architect and designer Christian Biecher. Biecher has worked extensively throughout Europe and Asia. His design of the Parisian restaurant Korova, the hip Rue Saint-Honore Joseph store, Issey Miyake’s Tokyo headquarters, and his new Pantone® backpack are just a few of his designs that have amassed critical acclaim. Biecher partnered with Bernhardt Design to develop Bernhardt Textiles Plain bringing his simple design esthetic into it’s design.

Sometimes we find a little, sometimes we find a lot!
This time we got lucky and we were able to procure many beautiful colors in large yardage quantities. I especially LOVE the bright orange colorway called Zest (below left), the color is like the brightest orange fruit you have ever seen. There is also an absolutely beautiful vibrant green called Celery (below right). Or try the calm sand which is more gray than cream (gray sand = dirt in my book, but I guess they did not want to name the fabric dirt).

Best useThe weight is fairly light, making it perfect for almost any use, but the 100,000 durability makes it a great upholstery choice. The texture is natural wool neither soft nor rough, just a tightly woven natural wool feel with no shine. To me the best use of this fabric would be on furniture with simple lines. Plain furniture + Plain fabric = Less is More. If you need a pop of color in your room, or just want a nice neutral touch you should find one of the Bernhard Plain colors attractive. Also try this fabric for headboards, purses and crafts. Maybe too heavy for drapery.CleaningTo prevent overall soil, frequent vacuuming or light brushing to remove dust and grime is recommended. Spot clean, using a mild water-free solvent or dry cleaning product. Do not use bleach at any time. The use of steam may cause excessive shrinking or staining of this particular fabric.
